Beautiful place to camp for a minimal price. We appreciated the staff and the reasons. We’d consider coming during our next excursion to Big Island!
I was a bit nervous leaving our equipment in the tent throughout the day, but each night we returned along with our stuff was untouched. Staff recommended us some snuba in cozumel tours for our family in Mexico. Additionally, there is a great place to see the sunrise that is a 5-7 minute walk!
The tour was fantastic! We watched several distinct landscapes as we ascended the summit. We felt like we had been on top of the world, above the cloud cover. We could even visit Mt. Haleakala on Maui! Sunset was, and we can see more stars than even a crystal clear sky at home because of the remote location and the elevation.
The bear was an excellent guide! We learned so much throughout the tour due to his engaging dialog. There’s a 5 mile stretch of unpaved road, which is somewhat rough, depending on conditions once you venture, but the driver was quite capable.
Dress in layers for heat – it is quite cold, particularly after sunset. Love hot cocoa or cherry after the sunset.
Cool place with several alternatives and excursions, a great place to keep in Hilo. We kept coming back because of the tone of the few camping areas on Big island with warm showers!
Traven & Newsgroups were excellent excursion guides! We really enjoyed our tour to various places such as the Ring of Fire! Traven & Patience were quite informative during this whole trip. We enjoyed the beautiful websites & discussions with them! Excellent hospitality & knowledge here!
